Together, St Thomas Church, alongside St Michael & All Angels Church, form the Parish of Kawakawa & Tōwai.
We are a warm and welcoming Anglican community. Our churches seek to share God’s love through worship, service, friendship, and support for our wider community. Whether you are a long-time parish member, new to the area, or simply looking for a place of peace and spiritual connection, you are warmly invited to join us at our Sunday service and community events.
Sunday Services
Welcome to the Parish of Kawakawa & Tōwai. Part of the Anglican Diocese of Auckland, our parish is home to two historic Anglican churches: St Thomas’ Church in Kawakawa and St Michael & All Saints Church in Tōwai.
Sunday services are held each week at St Thomas’ Church in Kawakawa at 9.30am. Eucharist is celebrated 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month. St Michael & All Saints in Tōwai hosts a service once a month starting at 11:30am.
Services are followed with refreshments in the church hall. We warmly welcome all who wish to join us in worship and fellowship.
Our History
Anglican worship in Kawakawa dates back to the nineteenth century. The parish’s original church, St Paul’s Anglican Church, was opened in 1878 and served the community for more than 125 years before being destroyed by fire in 2004. The St Thomas’ Church Hall is a versatile and welcoming venue ideal for celebrations, community gatherings, meetings, and private events.
The hall is well equipped with multiple folding tables and many comfortable padded stacking chairs. The large kitchen has all the necessary facilities as well as plenty of crockery, cutlery, glasses, and tablecloths, making it suitable for catered functions of all kinds.
Two sets of double French doors on two sides of the building open onto wraparound decks, creating a bright, open atmosphere. The hall has multiple bathroom facilities, including a disabled toilet, ensuring comfort for all attendees.
With ample off-street parking available for multiple vehicles, the hall is both convenient and practical. It offers a flexible, well-maintained space at the heart of the community.
